Planning The End

A rather dramatic title to mark the beginning of what should be the completion of the Great Glen canoe trip.. But certainly not the end of canoeing! The Queen very kindly has given us an extra day’s holiday for the first weekend in June, must be something important going on? And as luck would have it the very same weekend is promising to be a very sunny, if a little bold, affair… Thanks Queeny!

Ouch, that is looking VERY cold… Are you sure this is June!! Lovely, sunny and clear though – and the wind blowing in the right direction this time hopefully should set us up for a good attempt at the remaining 30 or so miles up Loch Ness and through to Inverness. Following last time we ventured out on to Loch Ness I’m hoping for calmer weather with less waves breaking over the canoe this time… And generally less fear of sinking!!Weather

We’re going almost full circle for this trip and back to finding ways of sleeping comfortably and warm on the floor and in tents (kind of). The hammocks were good, the tipi was big, but for size to weight and convenience it’s hard to beat a tarp, mosi net and sleeping bag. Nice in a way to maybe finish what started 4 years ago as a ‘back to basics’ trip by doing just that. No doubt we’ll have our glamping slant on it, mostly around the menu, but that’s just how we roll. A sort of lightweight, cut down, simplified, over the top, luxury with a canoe thing…

Or to start something off; BACK-GLAMPING, a merger of backpacking and glamping.
Feeling all nostalgic now, I think a look down ‘Memory Canal’ (see what I did there!) is in order. For now, just keeping fingers crossed that weather holds up, and maybe warms a touch!
